What’s this theory test about? The theory test is to check your knowledge of the highway code and related driving rules. The test is done on a computer at a Theory Test Centre. There are two parts, the Theory Test and the Hazard Perception Test. You have to pass both parts at a single sitting. The theory test has 50 multiple-choice questions. You have to get at least 43 right. The HPT has 14 video clips, taken from a moving car. You have to click the mouse button when you see a developing hazard. The sooner you spot it, the more points you get. There are 15 scoring hazards and 5 points max for each. You have to get 44 out of 75 to pass. Your ECPC instructor will help you practice for both parts of the test as you begin to drive, and advise you on good practice material so you can learn at home.
